The Ashtanga & Rocket retreat

YogAPulia, 24th-30th July 2027

Join me for a 6 day immersive retreat diving into the practices of Ashtanga and Rocket yoga. Known as cousins - Rocket being the crazy cousin of Ashtanga, two juxtapositions of the spectrum, Ashtanga is rooted in tradition and has a lot of stability and structure whereas Rocket is wild and free, bending the rules of the traditional Ashtanga sequences. Although they have their differences they do also have lots of similarities that will give you an abundance of new postural and breath work knowledge into your personal practice. As well as a strong understanding of how to transition with strength and creativity. Ashtanga is a traditional practice, taught in Sanskrit (English translations provided) with a big emphasis on Ujayii breathing and alignment. With lots of forward folds in both the standing and seated section this is a hamstring heavy practice so is fantastic for building flexibility and also brilliant for building strength as we hold every posture for 5 breaths. Rocket is an energetic practice with the option to take postures further, skipping vinyasas with handstands, taking crow’s to tripod headstands - the options are limitless. With Rocket you can either pull it back, rest when you need to, modify where feels right or go full force and push it to the most dynamic options.

With morning practices and afternoon workshops focusing on inversions and transitions this is going to be 6 days of diving deep into these practices. This retreat is best suited to those with an existing yoga experience, with an eagerness to grow their own understanding and practice.

YogApulia is located in the beautiful Valle d’Itria in Puglia, Southern Italy, between Ostuni and Cisternino - land of the Trulli houses, immersed in a magnificent hill landscape with the characteristic vineyards and age old olive groves of the area.
