The Ashtanga & Rocket retreat

The Ashtanga & Rocket Retreat

YogAPulia, 24th-30th July 2027

Join me for a 6 day immersive retreat diving into the practices of Ashtanga and Rocket yoga. Known as cousins - Rocket being the crazy cousin of Ashtanga. Ashtanga is rooted in tradition offering stability and structure whereas Rocket respects and pays homage to it’s roots but has a real sense of freedom and playfulness.

Ashtanga is a traditional practice, taught in Sanskrit (English translations provided) with a big emphasis on Ujayii breathing and alignment. With lots of forward folds in both the standing and seated section of the sequence this is a hamstring heavy practice so is fantastic for gaining flexibility and also brilliant for building strength. Although the sequence focuses a lot on hamstrings it is well balanced, moving through all three planes of movement.

Rocket is an energetic practice that challenges the traditional Ashtanga sequencing with the option to take postures further. Think switching typical vinyasa’s with handstands, taking crow’s to tripod headstands - the options are limitless. With Rocket you can either pull it back, rest when you need to, modify where feels right or go full force and exploring dynamic options.

With 6 morning practices and 3 afternoon workshops focusing on inversions and transitions this is going to be 6 days of diving deep into these styles of yoga. Your time on this retreat will give you a strong understanding of both these incredible practices and their detailing, think of it as a chance to explore, learn and have fun. This retreat is best suited to those with existing yoga experience and an eagerness to grow their own understanding and practice. Alongside the yoga there is lots of time to rest and explore.

The retreat is being held at YogApulia which is located in the beautiful Valle d’Itria in Puglia, Southern Italy, between Ostuni and Cisternino - land of the Trulli houses, immersed in a magnificent hill landscape with the characteristic vineyards and age old olive groves of the area.
